Stormzy has responded to a newspaper confusing him with Manchester United's new £75million signing Romelu Lukaku on their back page.

The Irish Herald printed a picture of the UK grime artist in a Red Devils tracksuit alongside the headline: "Lukaku is ready for work".

The image quickly went viral on social media, with Twitter users stunned by the gaffe.

The Herald editor Alan Steenson then posted a response on the newspaper's website, which read: "Hands up, we got it badly wrong.

"Earlier, we made an error with a picture of Romelu Lukaku that wasn't him. It was Stormzy."

"To be honest, we are totally embarrassed and want to say sorry to all involved and our readers for the error. We will keep our eye on the ball in future."

Stormzy also responded to the mistake, tweeting to his 757,000 followers: "I don't find none of this funny btw [by the way].

"Don't want to sound like a party pooper who missed the joke..."

The Herald then tweeted the 23-year-old back, saying: "Sincere apologies, we don't think it's funny either."

Lukaku put pen to paper with Manchester United this week, and has only recently completed his medical for the move.

He has been on holiday with Paul Pogba in Los Angeles, where the rest of the Red Devils squad flew out to meet up with them for pre-season training on Monday.
