Swansea reject Borja Baston has slammed the Welsh outfit over his time at the Liberty Stadium.

The Spanish striker was a club-record £15.5million buy for the Swans from Atletico Madrid in his homeland last August, but managed just four starts and one goal in the Premier League and has now been shipped out to La Liga side Malaga on a season-long loan.

Now, any future he might have had in Wales looks to have gone out the window after he criticised the club and former manager Bob Bradley .

Baston said: “I arrived at Swansea with an arm injury that I had picked up at Atletico. Just when I was recovering, I had a small problem with my quadriceps.

"I recovered from that and was able to play a couple of games, but then they fired the manager who had brought me in (Francesco Guidolin).

“It was difficult after that because the manager who came in (Bradley) drove the team mad. He made lots of changes and we didn’t know what we were trying to do. In the end, with the arrival of Paul Clement, the team settled and we managed to stay up.”

Bradley lasted just 85 days in the hot-seat after succeeding Guidolin.

Clement took over from the American and kept his team in the top-flight against all the odds.

Former Real Madrid and Bayern Munich assistant Clement has decided Baston is no longer part of his plans, with Fernando Llorente and Chelsea loanee Tammy Abraham his first-choice strikers for the coming campaign.

Baston has the option to return to Swansea from Malaga and although that looks unlikely, the 24-year-old insists he doesn’t regret moving to the Premier League.

“It was not what I had hoped for at Swansea. I was really excited to go, but at no point did they give me the chance to show what I could do,” he said.

“I think it was a great experience and I learned a lot. I don’t regret it, but I’m keen to feel important to a team again and have a good season. I was interested in leaving Swansea and I had various options.

“Malaga showed faith in me and it was straightforward because both parties wanted the deal done.”
