Ruud van Nistelrooy is relishing lining up for the Manchester United Legends against Barcelona this weekend.

The Dutchman, who scored 150 goals in his five years at Old Trafford, has been reintegrated into the United family following his bitter departure in 2006.

Van Nistelrooy fell foul of Sir Alex Ferguson, but relations gradually improved and he made his Legends debut against Real Madrid at Old Trafford in 2013.

Athletics superstar Usain Bolt, who is gutted at missing out on playing in Saturday's game because of a hamstring injury, says he supports the Red Devils because of Van Nistelrooy and the 41-year-old is looking forward to his return to his old stomping ground.

He said: “I was lucky enough to represent United for five years and the support I received from the fans is something I’ll never forget.

"In that sense, it will be good to go back, show them my gratitude and enjoy the game.”

Andy Cole will manage United after Bryan Robson had to stand down because of the recurrence of an old injury.

They lead 3-1 from the first game in Barcelona earlier this summer, and keeper Edwin van der Sar is confident they can hang on to win.

He said: “Hopefully, we’re not going to mess it up!

“Not many teams go away and win the first leg so we should be able to lift the trophy.”
