Wayne Rooney has been dropped by Jose Mourinho.

The Manchester United captain has come under fire following a succession of disappointing performances.

And Mourinho, whose side have lost their last two Premier League games, has opted to rest the England skipper for the crunch visit to Old Trafford of champions Leicester

Instead Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be partnered in attack by Marcus Rashford and Juan Mata.

Rooney, 30, is on the bench after Mourinho said on Friday that the forward does not have "special privileges".

"If he has to go on the bench, he goes on the bench. If he has to stay at home, he stays at home," said Mourinho.

But the Portuguese boss did suggest that Rooney could be suffering in form following criticism he was subjected to after England's World Cup 2018 qualifying win over Slovakia.
