Wayne Rooney fuelled talk he could be dropped for Saturday's crunch clash against Leicester after turning up to Manchester United 's team hotel alone.

The United skipper's place in the side has come under scrutiny, with Stan Collymore calling for Rooney to be offloaded by Jose Mourinho.

Rooney, 30, has vowed to fight for his spot in Mourinho's starting XI, but his manager refused to give any guarantees he would be in the side to face the Foxes.

And Rooney has intensified talk his place could be under threat after arriving at the Lowry Hotel around 5pm on Friday before the rest of his teammates.

Mourinho addressed Rooney's poor form during his pre-match press conference, claiming it mirrored that of the team on their recent losing streak.

“Wayne Rooney’s form is like Manchester United's form,” said Mourinho. “We're a team. We're not Wayne Rooney, we're a team. We all started well.

“We all won four matches. We all lost three matches in a week. That’s not Wayne Rooney. To be honest, he didn’t play against Feyenoord, so he was only directly involved in two of these three matches.

Meanwhile, Claudio Ranieri claims that Rooney would NOT get in his Leicester team.

Speaking ahead of Saturday's trip to Old Trafford, Ranieri said: “He is an amazing player. He’s a champion. But I love my players – and I wouldn’t change my players with anybody else.”
