Wayne Rooney has been welcomed back in open arms by Everton fans - less than 13 years after they abused him.

Rooney was mobbed by Toffees fans as he met with them for the first time after he returned to Goodison Park since he re-joined his boyhood club.

The striker was unveiled as an Everton player for the second time on Monday after leaving Manchester United for free.

And the return of the homegrown star has turned hatred back to love in the blue half of Liverpool

Toffees supporters haven't always been massive fans of Rooney.

Having broken through the academy and into the first-team, marked with a stunning strike against Arsenal, Rooney turned his back on the club by earning a £25.6m switch to Old Trafford.

He was booed on his first return to Goodison Park after arguing with a fan before kick-off.

Rooney also riled Everton fans by kissing the United badge of later visits to Merseyside.

But relationships were slightly healed when he donned a blue jersey during Duncan Ferguson's testimonial before refusing to celebrate a goal at the ground.

And his full-time return seems to allowed all previous hatred to be forgotten - with Rooney posing for plenty of selfies and signing autographs.
