Bertrand Traore's delightful flick settled a fiery Europa League game to push Ronald Koeman closer to the sack as Everton lost 2-1 to Lyon.

Nabil Fekir slotted home the opener for OL after Mason Holgate's stupidity in fouling Fernando Marcal.

After being outplayed for large spells, Everton found a way back into the game with Williams' header pulling them level.

But that was only after Williams sparked a brawl by shoving Anthony Lopes as he leaped to claim the ball in the air, with fans wading in as the players rowed near the stand.

Traore, who was also booked after the incident, then scored as OL retook the lead back with a clever touch to convert at the near post.

All the reaction from Goodison as Koeman moves towards the brink ahead of Arsenal.

Everton fan throws punch at Lyon player while holding CHILD as crowd get involved in player melee

Everton fans were caught up in a mass on-pitch brawl in the second half as one supporter, carrying his child, appeared to throw a punch at a Lyon player.

Ashley Williams clattered into goalkeeper Anthony Lopes which sparked the fracas, with players from both sides running in to get involved.

And footage showed one fan appearing to attack an opposition player.

Remarkably, Williams was only booked for his part in the melee and went on to score the equaliser for the Toffees.

GOAL! Everton 1-1 Lyon (Williams)

Wonderful delivery and Williams (who else!?) powers home the equaliser with a header.

Wild scenes of celebration, we’ve got a game!

Lyon suddenly look shaky, thrilling finish in store here.

Williams loses his head!

Williams has lost his head!

The Wales international pushes Lopes as he jumps for the ball, a red card in itself. While Traore has a debate with a few Blues in the crowd.

Shocking stuff, both are booked and perhaps get away with it lightly.

Great chance for ?, who is through on goal after Davies dallies on the ball in midfield.

Aouar sends Maolida in the clear, but his effort is blocked by Pickford, it should be two!

Koeman explaining what he wants from Mirallas on the touchline. Toffees living dangerously.

Lookman is impressing immediately, he’s a live wire and Lyon are struggling to contain him.

The conditions are tough here with the rain making the surface a nuisance when controlling the ball.

Depay straight through on goal but takes the shot early.

Schneiderlin just back in time and the shot lacks pace as Pickford pushes the shot away.

It’s too open from Koeman’s side, he needs to shut it down until half-time and regroup.

So close to two fro Lyon, Memphis lined it up and it flicked off the head of Tom Davies.

Pickford well beaten but it hits the woodwork to come to the Toffees’ aid.

It’s Klaassen at the other end, who dances beyond Lyon’s midfield and slides a shot low towards the bottom right corner, Lopes palms it away.

Lovely ball by Davies, weighted perfectly for Mirallas in behind.

The Belgian shoots straight at Lopes from the narrow angle and it’s out for a corner.

Better from the hosts, the crowd react as it buckets down still.

Shot from Schneiderlin, it’s well wide!

Dragged awkwardly wide. Lyon now confident and pushing forward with numbers. Traore’s free-kick is curled just too deep for anybody to rise and meet it.

It’s now pouring down with rain at Goodison, very slick surface, can Everton control their passing better in these conditions?

Fekir showing some real class so far, gliding across the Goodison turf.

Troubling look from the manager on the touchline.

Koeman couldn’t have had a worse start, Lyon look a threat with Memphis willing to break the lines with quick darts forward.

Davies at least chasing, looking to trigger a high press.

Goal! Everton 0-1 Lyon (Fekir)

Fekir slides it into the bottom right corner, very coolly done.

Whistles didn’t unsettle the Lyon talisman after a short wait.

Koeman looks away in disgust, horrible start for the Toffees.

Penalty Lyon!

Holgate on Marcal, it’s a shocker! Stonewall penalty!

We're off!

Underway at Goodison, with Everton requiring a result to kick-start a poor start to their European campaign.

Lively atmosphere as the Toffees get it down early on.

Depay nearly in behind before the ref pulls it back for a pull on Holgate.

Lyon take a look around Goodison

Goodison under the lights is a fine sight, and Lyon appear excited by the opportunity they have.

The Toffees will pose a different test that OL are yet to see this campaign.

Bruno Génésio will look to gage just how good his side are, despite Ronald Koeman struggling to transmit his ideas so far this season.

Koeman insists he has the backing of owner

“Yes he (Moshiri) was here. It was not only him, but also the chairman, Bill Kenwright, and more people from the board,” Koeman said.

“And of course they had a good lunch and, yes, they spoke about football. There was not really a message but the feeling is that they are behind the team and they are behind the manager.

“Everybody knows in football that is a nice thing, but in football always finally it is all about results.

“If you are a long time in football then maybe you know better than anybody this situation, but until now it is full, total support from the board.”

Early Everton team news

Jonjoe Kenny is doubt for Everton’s Europa League tie with Lyon while midfielder James McCarthy is still not ready to return.

Young English defender Kenny sustained a problem on international duty and only trained on Wednesday for the first time, and knee-injury victim McCarthy, who played 45 minutes for the development squad on Tuesday, could come into contention for the visit of Arsenal at the weekend.

The Toffees remain without Seamus Coleman (broken leg), Ramiro Funes Mori (knee), Ross Barkley (hamstring) and Yannick Bolasie (knee), while forward Oumar Niasse is ineligible to play in the Europa League as he was not included in the initial squad.

Everton boss Ronald Koeman admits he faces the sack ahead of Lyon clash

Ronald Koeman has admitted his job is on the line despite backing from Everton owner Farhad Moshiri.

The Blues are struggling — just two points clear of the Premier League’s drop zone after eight games, and with only one point from their first two Europa League group matches.

And boss Koeman was only saved from another loss on Sunday, away to Brighton, by a last-minute Wayne Rooney penalty.

As he prepared to host Lyon in Thursday’s latest European tie, the Dutchman accepted “maybe I am in crisis” when reminded that sacked-on-Monday Leicester counterpart Craig Shakespeare had claimed every manager is only four games from one.
