Arsene Wenger has insisted Alexis Sanchez will stay at Arsenal - but will not return to training until next week.

The forward has been linked with moves to Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

He was due to return to training on Sunday after his exploits with Chile at the Confederations Cup but a bout of flu has postponed his return.

Sanchez texted his manager to inform him of the news.

Wenger said: "Alexis has flu. I had a text yesterday. He will come back as soon as possible.

"There is no development [on his future] - he is staying, of course".

Asked if Sanchez told him he wants to stay, Wenger added: "I cannot reveal a secret conversation".

Wenger was speaking after his side scored five goals against Benfica as they started the Emirates Cup with a 5-2 victory.

Theo Walcott hit two and Olivier Giroud grabbed another as the Gunners came from behind.

Arsenal will face Sevilla tomorrow when £50million signing Alexandre Lacazette is expected to start.

And Wenger was full of praise for left-back Sead Kolasinac who arrived from Schalke on a free transfer this season.

The Frenchman added: "Kolasinac has gone from strength to strength in preseason. Every single week he moved his level up and today he was influential.

"Kolasinac looks powerful and the timing of his availability looks very good."
