Arsenal could swoop on two of Ajax's brightest sparks from under the nose of Barcelona with the hiring of one man - Marc Overmars.

The Dutchman is a candidate to replace Richard Law as sporting director and could put the Gunners in the box seat to sign Kasper Dolberg and Matthijs de Ligt.

Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo claim Barcelona would not get them if Overmars was at Arsenal.

Arsenal still trying to re-sign Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil insists owner Stan Kroenke, despite transfers looming

Arsenal have not given up on keeping Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil , according to Stan Kroenke, EXCLUSIVELY writes Mirror Football's John Cross.

Star duo Sanchez and Ozil are both out of contract at the end of this season.

The Gunners have so far been unable to agree new deals with either of them, and manager Arsene Wenger recently hinted at cashing in when the winter transfer window opens rather than lose them for nothing.

But majority shareholder Kroenke insists the club would love them to re-sign — and claims his Londoners can compete for Europe’s top players.

Talking exclusively to the Mirror before Thursday's AGM, Kroenke said: “We want to attract top players, keep top players. Those guys (Sanchez and Ozil) are top players.

“I watched them on Sunday (in the 5-2 win at Everton) and they looked really good in black with the red trim. They looked really good and they played really well and we’d love to keep them.

“It takes two to dance. We’ll keep working to keep our top talent and to attract more talent but some of the guys we’ve got are looking pretty good.

“I feel good about Arsenal’s ability to compete, and compete at a very high level. But I also feel we can get better, I really do. I think we’ll get better at it.”

Why Theo Walcott should leave Arsenal after almost 12 years according to club legend Ian Wright

Theo Walcott has been urged to leave Arsenal "for his own good" by club legend Ian Wright , writes Mirror Football's Alex Smith.

Winger Walcott has only played for 48 minutes in the Premier League during three substitute appearances this season.

The England star's seen the majority of his action in cup competitions as he has been a regular in the Europa League and Carabao Cup campaigns.

His most recent game time came against Norwich in the League Cup - as the Gunners needed extra time to sneak past the Championship club.

And former Gunners record goal scorer Wright believes after almost 12 years at the Emirates, it is time for Walcott to move on.

"I think so, for his own sake," Wright told Sky Sports when questioned if Walcott should be searching for a transfer.

"I'm not sure where he can go now with Arsenal and he's only playing in the Carabao Cup and the Europa League.

"He'll want to finish on a high in respect of what he's doing, he's given Arsenal great service in the time he's been there and for me he should move on for himself."
