Tottenham have joined Arsenal in the race for Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka.

The two north London clubs are now going head-to-head for the German after Mauricio Pochettino’s recruitment team stepped up their interest in the 22-year-old.

Goretzka has been on the Gunners’ radar for some time but Spurs have attended almost all of Schalke’s games in the past month, running the rule of one of their top targets.

German sources have confirmed that he remains keen on a switch to either Barcelona or Bayern Munich.

Goretzka very much fills the model that Spurs’ big-wig Daniel Levy has adhered to during his time at the club – and the fact that he is out of contract in six months’ time will only fuel further his desire to conclude a deal.
