Arsenal are among the teams considering a move for Germany Under-21 starlet Max Meyer, according to reports.

The Gunners have reportedly joined Liverpool and Tottenham in showing an interest in Meyer's services.

According to Revier Sport, the Premier League clubs are monitoring his progress - and he has failed to rule out a move from his current side, Schalke.

"It is not the case that I want to leave come what may," he said recently.

"As things stand [I will stay], but you can never say for sure when you have one year left on your contract and the transfer window is open for another couple of months."

Alexis Sanchez looks ready to put a difficult summer behind him as he prepares for Arsenal 's Community Shield clash with Chelsea.

The Chile forward was spotted laughing and joking around in training on Wednesday as he chatted to manager Arsene Wenger and reacquainted himself with his team-mates.

Fans have been worried Sanchez may not be mentally ready to rejoin the Arsenal squad but he looked relaxed at Arsenal's Colney training base.

The Gunners superstar flew back from Chile on Monday night after he came down with a bout of flu over the weekend which delayed his return to England.

The 28-year-old trained on his own with Arsenal fitness coach Barry Solan and will look to build up his fitness ahead of the new season.

Time will tell if Wenger is mad or messiah

Arsene Wenger ’s claim to be relaxed about players running down their contracts gave more ammunition to those who think he has parted company with his marbles.

How could letting prized talents such as Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil leave for nothing next May be deemed an “ideal situation” ?

Especially when he qualified it by insisting the contract rebels will play out of their skins until the final day of the season to attract the highest bidders. And by refusing to factor in the risk of a malcontent indulging in a season-long strop for being held against his will.

More bizarrely, how could the Arsenal manager argue, as Neymar is about to move to Paris Saint-Germain for £199million, that the days of big transfer fees are ending?

Wenger said: “Because the transfers are so high, you will see more and more players going into the final year of the contract because no club will want to pay the amount demanded. I’m convinced, in the next 10 years, it will become usual.”
