Wenger vs Neville: Part 48275

Arsene Wenger has renewed his attack on Arsenal’s TV critics by insisting they have shown their mental strength by winning back-to-back FA Cups.

Gunners boss Wenger has found himself under fire from Sky expert Gary Neville who questioned their “grit and determination” as well as insisting they lacked “personality” to be successful.

“It's just an assessment and an opinion you have to respect," Wenger said. The modern world, people are informed. People are informed and have opinions but at the end of the day someone had to make decisions.

“People who make decisions have to be responsible and stand up for their decisions and that's not exactly the same for the opinion.

“That's part of our job, to be confronted with different opinions and to accept that sometimes people are wrong and sometimes people are right. That's part of it. I disagree of course.”

Arsene Wenger has been backed after failing to bring in a new striker during the transfer window.

Wenger has come under fire for not bolstering his strike-force before Tuesday's deadline.

Former Gunners striker John Hartson told talkSPORT: “I totally understand why Wenger has not bought. The Danny Welbeck situation is unfortunate now he has to go in for a knee operation.

“We’ve all criticised Arsenal and would like to see them be a bit more active in the transfer market - he hasn’t been.

“He’s not going to buy players just to add the group. You’ve got to bring in players that are going to enhance the team.”

Mathieu Debuchy admits he has been considering his Arsenal future.

Defender Debuchy has revealed he contemplated leaving after Hector Bellerin started the Community Shield ahead of him.

Debuchy, 30, told L'Equipe: "It's difficult. Even if I didn't play a lot last season, in my head I was coming back in order to be in the starting XI for the resumption.

"But, at the Community Shield against Chelsea, Wenger chose him, Bellerin. It was a surprise and a disappointment.

“Let's say it (leaving) crossed my mind. But I want to be at Arsenal and to get back my place here."

Arsenal are lining up a €30million January bid for Juventus forward Simone Zaza, according to reports in Italy.

Zaza was only signed this summer after two seasons with Sassuolo, but looks to be fourth choice striker behind Alvaro Morata, Paulo Dybala and Mario Mandzukic.

With Euro 2016 just around the corner, Italian international Zaza could be tempted by a move to the Emirates, if it meant regular first-team football.

Arsene Wenger has been widely criticised for his failure to sign a striker in the summer window.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has revealed Real Madrid missed out on signing Patrick Vieira during his time at Arsenal.

Speaking about Los Blancos' botched move for David De Gea, Perez pointed to the fact the club had failed to sign targets in the past.

They include Gunners legend Vieira, and his compatriot Franck Ribery.

"We have missed out on players before, Franck Ribery and Patrick Vieira for example," he said.
