Wenger urges refs to clamp down on Costa

Arsene Wenger wants referees to make Diego Costa a marked man amid fears the Chelsea bad boy will escape retrospective action.

Arsenal boss Wenger was furious with his defender Gabriel for getting sent off in Saturday's loss at Stamford Bridge but says referees should know by now that opponents are always “well provoked” by striker Costa’s blatant wind-ups.

“You have a fourth official, you have a linesman, [and] the referee and they talk all the game. They can tell him and they know Diego Costa.

“He [Costa] is not a newcomer. He was here for a year now.

"It is surprising. I tell you something, if I am a referee and I referee Diego Costa, I do not send somebody off quickly if he responds, because you know he has been well provoked.”

Wenger targeted by Mourinho jibe

Jose Mourinho admits he would like to sign EVERY Arsenal player – as long as they were FREE.

Chelsea manager Mourinho delivered another backhanded compliment by claiming Arsenal have got a squad good enough to be champions.

“I think Arsenal has the squad to be champions,” said Mourinho. “And every season I feel that.”

So why aren’t they?

“I don’t know. But that’s my feeling. I like every player.”

If you were manager of Arsenal?

“I am not. I am not. I just tell you that I like every player. I tell you if one of their players is a free agent and they don’t want him there, I get every one.

"I like all of their players.”

Celebrity fan claims he could do better than Wenger

Arsenal fan Piers Morgan has claimed he could do a better job than Arsene Wenger after another indifferent start to the season from the Gunners.

Wenger's side have won three, drawn one and lost two of their six fixtures so far, as well as suffering defeat in the Champions League against Dinamo Zagreb.

Speaking prior to yesterday's defeat to Chelsea, Morgan slammed Wenger for selecting a weakened side in midweek, a decision which backfired.

He also criticised the fact Arsenal have struggled to challenge for the title in the last decade, and their decision not to sign a single outfield player, particularly in forward areas, in the summer transfer window.

"I feel like the entire history of my life Arsenal have been fourth under Arsene Wenger," Morgan told BT Sport.

"We didn't buy a single outfield player in the world because Arsene decided we don't need one.

"I keep being asked, 'who could do a better job?' I could do a better job with this money. I'd have spent £100million on Benzema."

Arsenal could make a January bid for Belgium and Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi, according to the Daily Star.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger was criticised for not bringing in any outfield players in the summer, and has reportedly identified Batshuayi as a potential signing.

Batshuayi, 21, is valued at £22m by Marseille.

Keown gives defenders Costa advice

Controversial: Costa has been criticised for his theatrical performance against Arsenal (

Former Arsenal hard man Martin Keown has revealed how he would deal with Chelsea striker Diego Costa.

"I never played against someone who wanted to get an opponent sent off so much. Craig Bellamy was mouthy, Mick Harford smashed into you at every opportunity and Alan Shearer was a handful. But they never went running to the referee," Keown wrote in his Daily Mail column.

"I'd try to overpower him and then give him a taste of his own medicine by reacting like he does. I'd look for the help of the referee: if you fall over, so will I. He'd have to know that he couldn't trust me either. I'd tread the line carefully — whatever happens, I'm staying on the pitch.

"That's how you beat him. Enjoy it, relish it."
