Gunners set to miss out on Florenzi

Arsenal have been dealt a blow in their pursuit for highly-rated Roma right-back Alessandro Florenzi.

The Gunners and north London rivals Spurs had both reportedly been in the race for his signature, but Barcelona apparently see him as their long-term successor to Dani Alves, according to talkSPORT.

Brazilian Alves is approaching 400 La Liga appearances, but Barca know he won't be around forever, and are making plans for the future.

The 24-year-old is apparently their replacement of choice, and they could make a move in January, despite Florenzi being under contract with the Serie A outfit until 2019.
