Here are all the latest Gunners stories from today's Daily Mirror and other news outlets...

Icardi swoop

Arsenal will attempt to recruit Mauro Icardi in January, according to reports in Italy.

Tuttosport claim the Gunners will look to strengthen their striking options with the signing of Inter Milan's 22-year-old striker.

It is also claimed Arsenal had a £32m bid for the Argentine rejected in the summer.

Icardi has netted four goals in 11 Serie A appearances this campaign.

Pato available

Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham are all keeping tabs on Alexandre Pato, the London Evening Standard report.

The three clubs have been made aware that he will be available in January for a fee of around £11m.

Pato, 26, is currently on loan at Sao Paulo from Corinthians and has been in good form back in his home country.

He left AC Milan in 2012 to return to Brazil after a number of injuries hampered his progress at the San Siro.

But the striker is now keen on a return to Europe and was also reportedly targeted by Manchester United during the summer.

Wenger: We can complete European fightback

Arsene Wenger last night promised Arsenal can complete their Champions League fightback after setting up a win-or-bust showdown in Athens, writes MirrorFootball's John Cross.

Two-goal hero Alexis Sanchez helped Arsenal overcome Dinamo Zagreb and they must now beat Olympiakos on December 9 to reach the knock-out stages.

But Wenger - whose side still need to better Olympiakos’ 3-2 win at the Emirates to go through on the head-to-head - insisted Arsenal are only making up for their blunders earlier in the competition.

Gunners boss Wenger said: “At least tonight we have come out with a chance. Let's make right what we didn't do right until now.

“We wanted to come out of the game with a chance to qualify. We needed to do the job, and Bayern needed to beat Olympiakos. Both did it well and it gives us a chance. How big the chance is I don’t know but I believe we can do it."

Wenger responds to spending jibe magnificently

Arsene Wenger jokingly mocked a suggestion by a journalist that he doesn't like to spend money - and invited him on a night out, writes MirrorFootball's Liam Corless.

The Arsenal manager was criticised in the summer for his failure to sign a single outfield player ahead of the new season.

Wenger doesn't like to buy in January but admitted his hand could be forced by the predicament the squad is currently in.

Presumably about to ask the Frenchman about his transfer plans, a reporter said to Wenger after Arsenal's 3-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb: "I know you don't like to spend money..."

Wenger immediately intervened with a huge grin on his face: "No I don't agree with you.

"And if I invite you [out] one night you will see that I like to spend money!"

Coquelin out for 12 weeks

Arsene Wenger has confirmed Francis Coquelin will be out for three months with a knee ligament injury, writes MirrorFootball's Hamish Mackay.

The Frenchman was taken off early on in the 2-1 defeat away to West Brom with a knee injury and will now miss the busy Christmas period.

The club have conducted tests on Coquelin and have discovered he has ligament damage and could be out for up to three months.

Wenger said: "It is what we feared, basically. Let's be realistic and count 12 weeks."

There is some positive news though with the midfielder NOT needing surgery.

Wilshere offers injury update

Jack Wilshere is refusing to put a timescale on his latest return from injury, writes MirrorFootball's Liam Corless.

The Arsenal midfielder is currently sidelined with a hairline fracture of his left leg and hasn't made an appearance for Arsene Wenger's side this season.

Wilshere is hopeful he'll be back on the field of play sooner rather than later but doesn't want to tempt fate by putting a specific date on his comeback.

"I’ve been in this position before, where I’m back on the pitch, doing a bit of running and all of a sudden something goes wrong so I don’t want to say I’ll be in a month or at Christmas," Wilshere told Fox Soccer.

"I’ll be back when I feel ready but at the minute it’s going well."
