Ezequiel Lavezzi, a long-term target of Arsenal, is unlikely to leave PSG in January, his agent has revealed.

The Argentine's contract with the French champions will expire at the end of the season, leaving him able to talk to other clubs next month.

However, agent Alejandro Mazzoni doesn't believe Lavezzi will move on until the summer window.

"At the moment I see no real possibility, the player will not leave in January," Mazzoni told Italian radio station Radio CRC.

"PSG are doing very well in the Champions League and they want to go as far as possible, that could therefore hinder a Lavezzi departure in January. Next June, Lavezzi will quietly choose his team for next season."

Right-back Mathieu Debuchy could be moved on in the summer, Arsene Wenger has admitted.

The 30-year-old has fallen behind Hector Bellerin in the Gunners' pecking order and may have to leave the club to improve his chances of being selected in France's squad for Euro 2016.

When asked about the possibility of Debuchy leaving Arsenal next month, Wenger responded: "It’s not impossible. I’m happy if he stays. We’ll see."

Wenger expecting busy January

Arsene Wenger has promised to be “busy” in the transfer window - but Arsenal fans better brace themselves for disappointment, write MirrorFootball's John Cross and Liam Prenderville.

Gunners boss Wenger has agreed a £5million deal with Swiss side Basel for Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Elneny , but is not expected to make any more signings.

When he was asked whether he was going to be busy, Wenger took that to mean whether he would be active and they are in the process of completing the Elneny deal.

Wenger said: “I’ll be busy, that’s for sure. I am already busy and I said already one month ago we are a bit short to deal with all the competitions we face, especially in midfield. We will be busy, yes.”

And when asked specifically about the Basel man, Wenger was more coy: "You know more than I do.

"Unfortunately we cannot announce anything at the moment about this player because nothing has been concluded."

Wenger: Sanchez will miss Newcastle clash

Alexis Sanchez is closing in on a return to the Arsenal first team, writes MirrorFootball's John Cross.

Gunners forward Sanchez suffered a recurrence of his hamstring injury in training before Christmas and it was feared he would be out until mid-January.

But Arsene Wenger is now hoping Sanchez could return for the FA Cup third round tie with Sunderland on Saturday, January 9.

Wenger is likely to make changes again on Saturday against Newcastle with Mathieu Flamini fit after an ankle problem.

Arsenal boss Wenger said: “Certainly we will rotate again. Flamini has a chance to come back and I think Alexis is a bit short. Alexis will be back in one week, maybe against Sunderland. Everybody else in the squad against Bournemouth should be available.”

Cech hopeful of continuing Messi shutout

Arsenal keeper Petr Cech has revealed his incredible record against Lionel Messi - and hopes to make it a perfect ten, writes MirrorFootball's John Cross.

Barcelona superstar Messi has never scored against Cech in eight previous meetings and even crashed a penalty against the crossbar in the Nou Camp in 2012.

Record-breaking keeper Cech will go head-to-head with the world’s greatest player when Arsenal meet Barcelona in their Champions League showdown.

Fine record: Lionel Messi has never scored past Petr Cech

And Cech believes Arsenal can cause another upset against the might of Barcelona and repeat Chelsea’s victory on the way to their European glory in 2012.

Cech said: “I didn’t realise myself for a long time but, last time we played them somebody found out, and then he missed a penalty and we managed to go to the final and we went on to win the Champions League.

“It’s great, not many people can say they’ve played eight games or how many minutes against Messi and he hasn’t found a way to get past me."

Wenger: United can win the league

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger believes Manchester United CAN still win the Premier League title this season, writes MirrorFootball's Alex Richards.

The Gunners sit top of the table following Monday's win over Bournemouth, with Louis van Gaal's misfiring Reds in sixth position, nine points off top spot.

United have struggled for form badly in December, having taken just two points from a possible 15.

That, coupled with their failure in the Champions League and their impotence in attack, has seen pressure rise on Van Gaal, who has defiantly insisted he will resign.

But Wenger believes that while United may be off the pace, they are still in contention, as are north London rivals Tottenham.

“Mathematically, you cannot rule out up to Man United," said Wenger. “Nine points is not big enough [to rule them out]."
