Monaco's Thomas Lemar put on a show for Arsenal scouts and justified the club's summer - and continued - interest in him.

The Frenchman was a major target for the Gunners but the Ligue 1 champions' asking price was too rich for Arsene Wenger and the club's liking.

However, Lemar has continued to catch the eye with a number of standout displays for Leonardo Jardim's team and, as Football.London reports, Arsenal scouts were at Bordeaux on Saturday to see him in action.

And they had every reason to be impressed.

After Keita Balde had opened the scoring for Monaco in the 57th minute, Lemar was at his best as he doubled his side's lead eight minutes later with a fantastic solo goal.

Picking the ball up on the left wing, Lemar cut inside and slalomed past three Bordeaux defenders to give him a sight on goal.

After using his pace and trickery, just two of the qualities that showed why Wenger attempted to sign him, Lemar found the net with his low strike fortuitously going through Benoit Costil's legs.

With the player having five goals to his name at this stage last season, it was in fact Lemar's first goal for his side this campaign.

While the 21-year-old will ultimately be relieved to find the back of the net again in the league, he will now be aiming to use his strike as a springboard to the heights he reached last season.

Although Robert Pires has told Wenger to forget about moving for Lemar given his excessive fee, the winger's performance will certainly have gone down will the club's scouts who were present at the game.

Even though the Gunners are still interested in signing the player, it looks as if it will be in the summer when a move could potentially go through.

Vadim Vasilyev, Monaco vice president, told the media earlier in the month that a January move would be extremely unlikely.

"Definitely next summer will be something to look at, although you know in football there are no guarantees," he said.

"We had some players who were supposed to leave this summer but didn’t leave because of X, Y, Z. I think it would be fair to say Thomas will have a fair chance to an exit next year.

"January, in football, never say never, but this is not what we’re thinking of, this is really not in our plans.

"Then we have to wait and see, how the team does, in different competitions, if we have an interest in him, and also his ambitions after the World Cup. January doesn’t seem like the right time for major changes in the team."

Given Lemar's impressive display at Bordeaux, expect a few more eyes to be watching him closely when his side travel to Besiktas in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.
