Arsenal striker Yaya Sanogo has confirmed that he's leaving the club - after bagging just one competitive goal in an injury-hit four years.

Sanogo played just 20 times for the Gunners, with his only strike coming against Borussia Dortmund in 2014.

Signed from Auxerre in 2013, the Frenchman, now 24, failed to impress himself at the Emirates, three times being sent on loan.

A calf injury wrecked his 2016-17 campaign, with the striker not making a single first-team appearance throughout the campaign.

Now he's looking to rejuvenate a career that has badly stalled - but he holds no ill feeling towards Arsene Wenger after being told his contract won't be renewed.

“I’m free," said Sanogo, speaking to L'Equipe. "The adventure ends.

"My left calf is healed. It kept me off the pitch for nearly 7 months. I came back in January, with a fitness trainer. I was able to play again for the Arsenal reserves. It was very hard when I was injured. You feel so mentally alone. There is virtually nobody at your side.

"And there is this frustration about not knowing what the source of my pain was.

Much of his time at Arsenal was a struggle however

"The injuries stunted my progress, there were moments where I was good. I remember the summer of 2014 when, during the Emirates Cup, I scored a quadruple against Benfica. And then there were some bad decisions, and I maybe did not always do what was necessary to impose myself.

Asked whether Wenger should take any blame for his failure to shine in north London, Sanogo responded: "Absolutely not. He [Wenger] is not responsible for my injuries. He is a great manager. He taught me a lot."

Sanogo has been linked with a potential move to Italy, with Genoa reportedly keen.
