Arsenal and Spurs will go head-to-head for £30million star Riyad Mahrez in January.

The Leicester winger wanted to leave the King Power in the summer — with Barcelona and Roma keen to sign him.

Those deals failed to materialise and now both north London clubs are ready to move.

The Gunners' boss showed an interest in Mahrez two years ago, but Leicester — who were then contesting the Premier League title — refused to sell.

Now they could have a change of heart as manager Craig Shakespeare looks to bolster his squad during the winter window to ensure they stay in the Premier League.

Mahrez would add proven quality to a Gunners squad braced for the potential departures of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.

Germany international midfielder Ozil and Chile striker Sanchez are both out of contract at the end of the season, and Wenger admitted last week that both could leave the Emirates in January.

If offers come in for the pair, then Arsenal may find them hard to resist as both would be entitled to free transfers at the end of the season.

But the arrival of Mahrez would serve as a huge compensation and it is thought that the Algerian would welcome a move to London.
