Arsene Wenger was reportedly in France for talks over Alexandre Lacazette - not Kylian Mbappe.

The Arsenal boss was pictured in Nice last week with chief executive Ivan Gazidis amid reports a bid has been made for Monaco starlet Mbappe.

Mirror Sport understands they were in the south of France last week and although Arsenal have not made an official bid for Mbappe , there is no doubting their interest.

But Lacazette is also on their wishlist and Arsenal have stepped up the pace in their pursuit.

According to the Sun , Wenger and Gazidis were in France for talks with Lyon president Jean-Michael Aulas.

It is reported talks were held over a proposed £50million deal at Aulas' luxury villa in Cap Ferrat.

Arsenal are confident of luring Lacazette to the Emirates, although they face competition from Manchester United.

Jose Mourinho is determined to bring in a striker this summer and hopes to pip Arsenal to the transfer.

Wenger is under orders to stop dithering in the transfer market with the Arsenal board trying to push through early signings.

Sead Kolasinac's arrival was confirmed on Tuesday with the Gunners also keen on wantaway Leicester winger Riyad Mahrez and Monaco midfielder Thomas Lemar .

Pablo Fornals is another target with the Malaga midfielder earmarked as a long-term replacement for Santi Cazorla.
