Arsenal are prepared to pay £20million for Napoli defender Nikola Maksimovic, according to reports.

The Gunners are allegedly looking for defensive reinforcements this winter, with the Serbian now becoming one of their top targets.

According to Football Italia, Arsenal are ready to make their move in January and capitalise on him being out of favour at Napoli as it stands.

The Serie A leaders paid £20m for him in the summer of 2016 but he has started just two games in all competitions this season.

Arsenal are reportedly prepared to give them their money back for the player.

Wenger gives Welbeck and Koscielny update

As if falling 2-1 to Watford wasn't enough of a blow to Arsene Wenger, Arsenal may have to deal with further injury layoffs for two star players.

Per Mertesacker headed the Gunners ahead with his first league goal in 1400 days, only for a contentious Troy Deeney penalty to draw Watford level before Tom Cleverley's late heroics sealed a memorable 2-1 victory.

And to make matters worse, Danny Welbeck and Laurent Koscielny both failed to finish the game at Vicarage Road.

A disappointed Wenger offered an update after the match.

“It looks to be a hamstring with Welbeck,” Wenger said.

“I don’t really know because everybody is shocked in the dressing room [about the result]. It looks a muscular problem.

“Koscielny is a muscular problem as well.”

Draxler drops transfer hint

Arsenal fans are convinced Julian Draxler has dropped a transfer hint on social media by sharing an image of a Gunners shirt with Sead Kolasinac's name on the back.

The Paris Saint-Germain star has been an Arsenal target for some time, and was on their radar over the summer when it looked as if Alexis Sanchez would be moving on.

PSG then splashed out on Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, strengthening the notion that Draxler could be on his way to the Emirates.

But the Germany international opted to knuckle down in Paris, and fight for his place in the first team, and has so far made six appearances this season.

That said, it is looking increasingly likely that both Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, who have yet to sign contract extensions at Arsenal, could be gone before the end of the season.

And Draxler will certainly be top of Arsene Wenger's shopping list should the Frenchman need to strengthen his attack.
