Arsene Wenger has told fans Arsenal are "close" to making another signing.

The Gunners have been criticised for their lack of activity in the transfer market this season, and are short at both ends of the field.

Wenger may finally be ready to appease the fans, though.

“Yes we are close [to another signing],” Wenger told BT Sport. “But I would say spending in itself is not a quality. Spending and buying the right players is a quality.

“I am a bit fed up to always respond to the same things. We look and analyse absolutely everything and we have to make the right decisions.”

Jamie Vardy insists that it was an easy decision to reject Arsenal in favour of signing a new Leicester contract.

The England striker snubbed a £120,000-a-week deal from the Gunners just weeks after lifting the Premier League trophy.

But he says that it was a simple decision to reject Arsenal - and he had plenty of time to think about it.

Vardy made the call to remain at the King Power Stadium during the European Championships, where he mulled over the decision while at the Three Lions' base in Chantilly.

Speaking to BT Sport, he said: "Every time I thought about it, my heart and head were coming to the same answer, which was to stay.
