Arsene Wenger is eyeing evolution rather than revolution at Arsenal this summer, after declaring there will be "a maximum of three" signings.

Despite missing out on a Champions League spot, the Frenchman is not pushing for a complete overhaul - despite having in excess of £150million to spend.

Wenger signed a two-year contract extension last week, despite calls for him to go after the north London club finished outside the top four for the first time in 21 years.

Monaco starlet Kylian Mbappe and Leicester's Riyad Mahrez are both on Wenger's radar, while there is still speculation surrounding the future of both Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.

Speaking to beIN Sports, Wenger hinted at his faith in his current squad, despite the fact that he must oversee a Europa League campaign next term.

“Between a maximum of two or three," said the Frenchman when asked how many additions he expects to make.

“We cannot spend as much as many other clubs because some clubs have external resources that allow them to be basically unlimited.

“We can spend money because we have managed the club well. Let’s not forget the amount of money spent is not a guarantee of success.

“We have to be clear what we understand as a big signing. Is [Rob] Holding a big signing for you or not?

“When you buy a player for £40million, everybody will have at the start a positive judgement. When you buy him for £2million, he can’t be good?

“That means a big signing is not necessarily linked with the amount of money spent.”
