Claudio Ranieri wants to take Arsenal youngster Jeff Reine-Adelaide on loan, according to reports.

Former Leicester boss Ranieri is now in charge of French Ligue 1 side Nantes, but appears to be turning to the Premier League for his transfer targets.

L'Equipe report that Ranieri is keen on taking exciting 19-year-old Reine-Adelaide for the season in order to give him first-team experience in his homeland.

Reine-Adelaide is unlikely to get first-team opportunities with the senior Gunners' squad this season.

Arsene Wenger has admitted he is struggling to get Alexis Sanchez to commit to a new deal at Arsenal.

The Gunners boss has been adamant that his Chilean star forward will stay beyond this summer, despite having just 12 months left on his contract.

He has conceded, however, that Sanchez is not willing to prolong his stay at the Emirates meaning he is on course to walk away for free in a years’ time when he will be 29.

Wenger told SFR Sport: “In the short term he will remain an Arsenal player. Now, will we manage to extend his contract?

“Whether we manage to get him to sign an extension or not - we have so far not been able to.

“On that level I am not super optimistic. We have the firm intention not to sell him.”

Arsenal defender Kieran Gibbs’ move to Watford was scrapped because he didn’t want to take a wage cut.

Contrary to reports, the Hornets were confident of reaching a compromise on the Gunners’ £16million valuation for the England left-back.

It is understood, however, Gibbs was unwilling to compromise on his £80,000-a-week wages.

It left new Watford boss Marco Silva and the Hornets’ hierarchy bemused as Gibbs is third choice at Arsenal behind new left-back Sead Kolasinac and Nacho Monreal.

Gibbs, who has 12 months left on his current contract, is also known to be one of the players for whom the Gunners are willing to listen to offers.
