Arsene Wenger has refused to deny he will meet with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on Thursday to discuss the midfielder's future.

It is understood Wenger, Oxlade-Chamberlain and chief executive Ivan Gazidis will sit down for talks at London Colney in a bid to resolve his contract situation.

Oxlade-Chamberlain, 24, has less than a year remaining on his current deal and is reluctant to sign an extension.

Arsenal have offered him £125,000-a-week but the former Southampton man is considering leaving amid fears over playing time and frustration around his development.

When asked about the meeting at his pre-match press conference, Wenger responded: “We have our agenda, which is quite busy, but we do not publish them."

He added: “Some people outside the club look better informed than I am.”

Chelsea remain interested in Oxlade-Chamberlain while Liverpool have not given up on the England winger despite having an approach turned down earlier in the summer.

Wenger, however, is determined to keep hold of a man he sees having a big future at Arsenal.

“I want to keep my best players," added Wenger. "We invested a lot of time and money in players like Chamberlain and for me he has a responsibility to the club.”

Wenger did admit, however, that he is looking to sell players and reiterated his desire for a smaller squad.

“I am completely happy with the strength of the squad," said Wenger. "I have said already we have too many players. Some players have no chance to play.

“If you have too many players of confirmed status you are in a difficult position to give a chance to young players.”

He added: “Both (ins and outs) can happen in the last seven days.”
