Chelsea youngster Thorgan Hazard has signed a permanent contract with German club Borussia Monchengladbach.

The Belgian starlet, 21, has spent the current campaign on loan with Die Fohlen and has now signed a five-year-deal with Gladbach to turn his temporary move permanent at the end of the season.

Hazard, who joined the Blues in 2012 before spending two years on loan with Zulte Waregem in Belgium, joins the German club for a fee believed to be in the region of £5.9million.

However, Chelsea have inserted a buy-back option into his contract with the Bundesliga club, giving them first refusal, with the club declaring that they "will continue to monitor his progress".

Hazard leaves Stamford Bridge having never played a minute of competitive football for the Blues, but having excelled while out on loan and making the club a 1500 percent mark up on their initial £370k investment.

He led Zulte to second spot in the Belgian top flight in 2013, earning a senior international cap in the process.

This term he has made 29 appearances for Gladbach in all competitions, scoring four goals.

"Thorgan has already hinted what a huge talented he is in the last few months," said sporting director Max Eberl.

"We are delighted that we achieved signing him on a permanent transfer and that he has opted to play for Borussia in the next few years."

Back in January, Jose Mourinho admitted being uncertain over the player's future, despite rating him highly.

“He’s one of the few players I travel to see play live and we like him very much," said Mourinho. “But there is here one player in front of him who is not bad, a guy called Hazard like him, but Eden.

"He is one of players we have on loan that has enough potential to play for Chelsea one day.”
