The big players have normally moved between he big clubs already by this stage of the summer transfer window.

However, this record-breaking summer has been something else.

Transfer fees have escalated across Europe, but there remain a host of stars still eyeing the exit door at their particular clubs.

There are some massive transfer sagas still to be resolved. Here's a look at those still on the line.

    Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal)

Wanted by: Manchester City, PSG, Chelsea

Arsene Wenger continues to insist he is staying at Arsenal. Should that be the case the Gunners will see a £60million asset join one of their rivals for free next summer. Sanchez would even be able to sign a pre-contract with a foreign club in January.

He may be remaining professional while he recovers from his current “injury”. But he has already made it clear that he wants to leave for a Champions League club.

Manchester City may well make their move in the final week of the window. Chelsea continue to monitor development.

    Philippe Coutinho (Liverpool)

    Wanted by: Barcelona

For so long the Liverpool playmaker has insisted he was happy at the club - until Liverpool issued that statement last week making it clear he would not be leaving for Barcelona or anywhere else.

    Then came the fireworks.

The transfer request came in. “family friends” were briefing the media and the exit strategy whizzed clicked into gear. Trouble is, just as Leipzig are succeeding in keeping Naby Keita from Liverpool, Liverpool remain adamant that they will not sell to Barca.

With three weeks to go this is far from over. Expect more dramatic as the transfer deadline draws closer.

      Diego Costa (Chelsea)

      Wanted by: Atletico Madrid

The archetypal battle of wills. Chelsea’s star striker continues to defy his bosses in a way that most employees would love to in their every day jobs. We all know the story - he wants to return to Atletico Madrid, Chelsea will not allow that to happen unless Atletico pay £50million. Costa in the meantime has done a runner to Brazil, is refusing to return and is threatening to run his contract down - without playing. The pantomime should reach it’s conclusion by the end of the window otherwise nobody wins.

        Riyad Mahrez (Leicester)

        Wanted by: Roma

You have to hand it to Roma. They want to land Leicester’s title-winning, former PFA Player of the Year on the cheap and had given the Foxes until Tuesday to accept their £31.8million offer.

Leicester’s billionaire owners, understandably, have yet to bat an eyelid. Mahrez does want to go but the former champions hold all the cards, valuing the Algerian at £50million.

They argue that if Gylfi Sigurdsson can go to Everton for £50million then why should Mahrez go for any less? He’ll stay unless Roma show Leicester the money.

        Ross Barkley (Everton)

        Wanted by: Tottenham

To a certain extent Everton want it both ways for their England playmaker. Ronald Koeman has clearly moved on from Barkley, bringing in Davy Klaasen from Ajax. But the Toffees boss has warned clubs that Barkley won’t be leaving on the cheap this month - despite having just a year left on his contract.

Spurs expect to do with Barkley what they did with Victor Wanyama 12 months ago, snapping up the Kenyan midfielder from Southampton for a bargain £9million. Chelsea are on the scene too. This will go to the final week because all parties know that if he doesn’t go cut-price this month then he goes for nothing next year.

Everton have landed Gylfi Sigurdsson...meaning Barkley has no place at Goodison Park.

        Virgil van Dijk (Southampton)

Wanted by: Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City

An uneasy peace remains between trying Dutchman and the Southampton chiefs who want to hold on to him. Van Dijk wants to go to Liverpool. The relationship between the two clubs is not as bad as some might think.

The respective owners have already settled their differences with Liverpool resolving not to make another move unless Southampton decide to sell him. Chelsea are in the hunt but Van Dijk would prefer Anfield. New Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino has already begun a charm offensive to try and get the former Celtic star, currently training on his own, back into the Saints squad.

Van Dijk has made it clear, however, that he is not prepared to see his chance of some Champions League football pass him by.

        Thomas Lemar (Monaco)

French midfielder Lemar was key to Monaco's rise last term (

        Wanted by: Arsenal

Arsenal have decided against pursuing Mahrez in favour of a push for another of Monaco’s finest. The trouble is, Lemar is far more expensive and worth the money.

The versatile France international is able to play on either wing and through the centre. He helped his side to the French title last season and to the semi-finals of the Champions League. Monaco want as much as £80million for him. Arsenal have had far less rejected but remain interested. They’ll have to do far better before the window closes if they are as serious as they suggest.

        Alex Sandro (Juventus)

The Brazilian has been excellent for Juventus (

        Wanted by: Chelsea

There was once a time when money would be no object for the Champions. Now Chelsea are finding more and more that clubs are rival clubs are able to resist their millions and hold on to their star players.

Antonio Conte will be hoping that is not the case with the Brazilian left wing-back they are determined to land before the end of the window. Juventus have steadily pushed the price up…and up…and the Blues will now have to stump up a record £61million if they want to take Sandro to Stamford Bridge by the end of the window.

The Italian giants have not given up on persuading him to sign a new contract themselves. This could go to the end of the window.

        Davinson Sanchez (Ajax)

The Colombian is keen on a move to Spurs (
        Image:

        Wanted by: Tottenham, Chelsea

It is coming to something when Chelsea attempt to hijack a Spurs move for an exciting player - only for the player to maintain he wants to go to north London.

That would be the case with Sanchez, the 21-year-old Colombian defender who has told Ajax he wants to work with Mauricio Pochettino.

Chelsea have registered a tentative interest but Sanchez is understood to have agreed terms already with Tottenham. Now the two clubs have to try and agree a fee, even though Ajax remain desperate to keep him.

Sanchez was left out of his club’s weekend game against Heracles, citing the well-worn case of “Transferitis” (Not in the right frame of mind). It should happen. It would be a huge coup for Tottenham.
