Everton believe they can finally solve their No 9 problem by signing Cenk Tosun from Besiktas for £25million.

The Toffees are determined to land a new main striker to replace Romelu Lukaku after being handicapped up front during the first half of the season and are closing in on Tosun.

Turkish international Tosun will become Sam Allardyce's first signing as Everton boss.

Everton desperately attempted, but failed, to replace Lukaku last summer and it has ultimately cost them as they made a disappointing start to this season.

Personal terms will not be an issue with Tosun and Everton will pay an initial £20million up front with a further £5million in add-ons.

He is expected to sign a four-and-a-half year deal at Goodison Park.

Tosun, 26, has been a big success with Besiktas and the Turkey striker has bagged 14 goals this season for club and country.

The Germany-born hitman scored four in Besiktas’ Champions League campaign, including both in their surprise 2-1 win at Monaco in October, to help the Istanbul club through to the last 16.

Tosun has been on Allardyce's radar for some time and even recommended him to Crystal Palace during his brief spell at Selhurst Park.

Everton had an initial bid of £15million turned down but Besiktas were happy with the renegotiated terms.

It is understood that Tosun completed his medical at Finch Farm on Wednesday, accompanied by his father and agent.
