The odds on Gareth Bale moving to Manchester have been slashed as punters back BOTH City and United to swoop.

The battle to lure the Welshman from Real Madrid is hotting up with United the long-time favourites to secure his signature.

But one bookmakers reports they've received a flurry of bets on Bale joining Manchester City - placed in the star's home city of Cardiff.

United, who face Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup final in Macedonia on Tuesday night, remain the bookmakers' favourites to land Bale with PSG the only other destination fancied by punters.

A Betfred spokesman told Wales Online : “We have had substantial bets on Bale coming to Old Trafford particularly in the Longsight area of Manchester while earlier today in Cardiff we took a series of bets around the city on the modern day legend joining City.

"Of all the players we have featured in our next club markets Bale’s likely move back to England has continued to spark most interest.”

A Ladbrokes spokesman added: “Bale is now into 5/2 to move to Manchester United and punters are piling into the odds." They list City at 25/1 and PSG at 20/1 .

The latest indication from Spanish media was that Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane may be willing to cash in on Bale this summer.

The former Spurs and Southampton man is valued at approximately £90m and his sale could help fund a Los Blancos bid for 18-year-old Monaco sensation Kylian Mbappe.

Jose Mourinho has today revealed he will "fight" for Bale if the star is not wanted by Real Madrid.

United face Real in the UEFA Super Cup tomorrow, with Mourinho claiming he will know if Bale is wanted if he makes Zidane's starting line-up in Skopje.

Asked if he had considered a move for Bale, Mourinho said: “Well if he's playing tomorrow, no I wouldn't think that, it would be because he's in the coach's plans and the club's plans, because he also has that motivation to continue at Real Madrid.

"So I haven't even thought about the possibility.

"If he is not in the club's plans, that with the arrival of another player would mean he was on his way out, I will try to be waiting for him on the other side and fight with other coaches that would want him on their team.

"But if he plays tomorrow, that is the best confirmation that he is still wanted by the team."
