Inter Milan are looking to fend off reported Arsenal interest in Mauro Icardi by offering him a new contract.

The Gunners are allegedly battling against Chelsea and Manchester United to land the Argentinian's signature in the next 12 months.

Premium Sport claim that Icardi is now set for talks with Inter over extending his current deal.

Icardi already has a deal under 2021 but Inter are reportedly keen to increase his release clause amid fears that they could lose their skipper.

Inter reportedly want the clause at £190million - but would likely have to hike his wages up once again.

Wenger insists Ozil talks haven't broken down

Arsene Wenger has denied that contract talks with Mesut Ozil have broken down — and remains hopeful he will put pen to paper on a new Arsenal deal.

Gunners boss Wenger did admit discussions have “slowed down” in the past couple of weeks but insists that dialogue is still open and the club want the 28-year-old playmaker to re-sign.

Ozil is into the final year of his contract, and while Arsenal have offered him in excess of £275,000-a-week the Germany international’s representatives are demanding a £350k per week package.

It seems increasingly likely Ozil will leave on a free transfer and German media claim talks have stalled since February.

But on Wednesday Wenger said: “Yes, of course (I am hopeful).

"The contract talks have slowed down a little bit since August 31, because we need a little breather and to focus on the competition. But we will slowly get back into that.”

German sensation Timo Werner has put the Premier League big boys on alert.

Striker Werner has continued his impressive scoring form since joining RB Leipzig last year, notching seven goals in six games for club and country so far this season.

And he is expected to be one of the major big-money targets for Europe’s elite clubs next summer.

Real Madrid are already plotting a move for the 21-year-old, and Werner admits England’s trophy-challenging sides would also be of interest if he were to leave Leipzig.

He told Sport Bild: “In Spain, there are a maximum of three clubs — Barcelona, Real and Atletico Madrid.

"In England there’s more: Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham, Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City.

“Bayern (Munich, Germany's perennial champions) is also a big club.

"But for me it is not a topic that I am concerned with.”
