Borussia Dortmund have completed the signing of Jadon Sancho from Manchester City for a fee believed to be around £8million.

City have succeeded in keeping the 17-year-old away from their Premier League rivals, though it remains a big blow to lose such a special talent.

Dortmund could have waited and paid a meagre £170,000 compensation clause, but worried he could instead opt to move to the Premier League. As such, they cut a deal with City, for £8million plus add-ons.

Sporting director Michael Zorc could not hide his delight at pulling off the deal for one of Europe's most exciting young players.

"We are very pleased that Jadon Sancho, who is currently one of the greatest talents in European football, will definitely want to play at BVB," Zorc said.

"We are convinced that we can help this very young player continue to develop his game and become a real enrichment for our team in the medium term."

Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham had all been keen on Sancho - player of the tournament at the Under-17 European Championships in May.

Tottenham pulled out of a move last week, and City had no interest in negotiating over compensation with either United or the Gunners.

Sancho turned down City's offer of a £30,000-a-week new contract due to fears about his chances of first team football at the Etihad.

He was subsequently left out of the club’s US tour and has since gone AWOL from training.

But Dortmund, who took the player on a tour of the club’s training facilities during the summer, are set to hand him a three-year deal after agreeing terms with City.

He will be handed the club’s No.7 shirt - vacated by Ousmane Dembele.
