Juventus CEO Beppe Marotta has confirmed the Bianconeri made a summer move for Emre Can - but won’t be going back for the German international in January.

Juve are long-time admirers of Can, who was only a substitute for Liverpool in their 1-1 draw with Newcastle on Sunday.

Can is into the final year of his contract at Anfield and talks over a new deal have failed to progress.

But according to Marotta, Juve won’t be making an attempt to land Can in January.

Speaking of potential moves in the transfer market when the January window opens, Marotta told Premium Sport: "We don’t think we are going to make a big signing in January.

“Our team is absolutely competitive and we have some very interesting midfielders like Bentancur who has already showed his qualities.

"We have faith in this team and in these lads. As for Emre Can I don’t think Liverpool will sell him in January.

"We made an offer for him in the summer but the Reds didn’t sell him so I don’t think they’ll change their mind in the middle of the season.”
