Juventus will pursue a move for Liverpool midfielder Emre Can if the release clause in his prospective new contract is less than £27million.

That is according to Italian outlet Calciomercato, who say the Old Lady have decided on a price they are willing to spend to lure the German to Turin.

Can's current deal at Anfield expires at the end of the season and he is reportedly keen on a release clause being inserted into any new contract.

The 23-year-old told German press earlier this season it was an 'honour' to be linked with a club of Juve's stature.

Jurgen Klopp defends controversial decision to hook Dejan Lovren early in Liverpool's 4-1 loss to Tottenham

Jurgen Klopp has defended his move to replace Dejan Lovren in the first half of Liverpool's 4-1 defeat by Tottenham, writes the Liverpool Echo's Kristian Walsh.

The German boss says his decision was tactical as he tried to explain the decision and took aim at his entire defence.

The Liverpool boss has, however, refused to rule out personnel changes at the back on a chastening afternoon for his side, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Croatian centre-back Lovren endured a nightmare afternoon at Wembley , proving culpable for the opening two goals as the Reds crashed to a 4-1 defeat .

Klopp substituted Lovren after half-an-hour with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain replacing him, with the German coach moving Joe Gomez to centre back and shifting Emre Can to right back.

Though Klopp did not defend Lovren for his performance, he refused to single him out for blame after the defeat.

"I really don't want to blame players,” Klopp said. “Dejan, to be honest, was not worse than Joel.

“We had to change something and we had to try to make sure we were a little bit more stabilised. We needed another protection in the half space - it actually didn't work too well, but that was the idea behind it.”

Liverpool keeper Simon Mignolet sets an embarrassing record with another clanger in 4-1 defeat to Tottenham

Simon Mignolet set a rather embarrassing record as Liverpool were battered 4-1 by Tottenham at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, writes Mirror Football's Jake Polden.

The Belgian goalkeeper, who has been preferred over the equally error-prone Loris Karius for the Reds this season, was at fault for Tottenham's fourth, as Harry Kane put the game beyond any reasonable doubt in the 56th minute.

Mignolet had attempted to catch a Christian Eriksen free-kick that was whipped into the Liverpool box, but failed to do so.

Instead he missed the ball altogether and could only watch as it landed at the foot of Jan Vertonghen, who fired at goal.

The 30-year-old defender's shot was blocked, but the loose ball then found itself at the feet of Kane, who fired past Mignolet with ease.

The error was just one a of few that marred the game from a Liverpool point of view, as Dejan Lovren's early mistake led to Spurs' second goal.

But it was the one that recorded the rather embarrassing stat.
