It has been a very frustrating summer for Liverpool fans.

They broke their transfer record to sign Mo Salah from Roma but other than that, things certainly haven't gone to plan.

First there was the embarrassing climb down over Virgil van Dijk before Leipzig managed to fend off interest in Naby Keita.

The worst was to come with Philippe Coutinho handing in a transfer request in a bid to force through a move to Barcelona.

But could things be about to pick up for the red half of Merseyside.

According to reports in Spain, they have verbally agreed a deal with Real Madrid for Mateo Kovacic.

The Real Madrid star started less than half of his side's games in La Liga last season and is struggling to force his way into Zinedine Zidane's thinking this time around.

Spanish outlet Diario Gol claim that Kovacic has spoken to Liverpool about the possibility of joining and would be happy to join.

He could be seen as a replacement for Coutinho and although he now looks set to stay, Reds fans are growing excited about the potential arrival of the Croatian.
