Liverpool's search for a new centre-back will not end at Lazio’s Stefan de Vrij.

The Dutch international has been on the Reds’ radar for over 12 months and the defender was seen as an alternative to compatriot Virgil van Dijk.

While Liverpool have so far failed in their bid to land the defender they were keeping tabs on the 25-year-old former Feyenoord man.

He was one of the outstanding performers in Brazil, having been handed his chance by Louis Van Gaal.

But the centre-half is the subject of a huge £25million bid from Lazio's Serie A rivals Inter Milan — and he has no desire yet to leave Italy's top flight for the Premier League.
