Liverpool will battle Inter Milan and Juventus for Lazio defender Stefan De Vrij next summer.

That is according to Calciomercato, who say the Reds will go for De Vrij as well as renewing their interest in Southampton stopper Virgil van Dijk.

But Inter and Juve will provide stiff competition and could be more appealing to De Vrij if he decides he wants to stay in Serie A.

De Vrij could be available on a free - his contract runs out next summer and talks with Lazio over a new deal have reportedly stalled.

Jurgen Klopp hit out at the FA by admitting he KNEW his appeal against Sadio Mane's ban was “a waste of time”.

But the Liverpool manager insisted it was his duty to try and get the three match suspension the winger will now face – after a collision with City keeper Ederson – because no other players in similar situations have been punished.

“I didn’t expect something different,” Klopp said. “It was really our duty to appeal. But as I said it was a waste of time, obviously.

“Our appeal was right because we only appealed the length of the suspension. I never thought it would happen but only because I am used to things like this."

Mo Salah was told not to breathe in Liverpool 's team meeting on Tuesday... to ensure his team-mates were fit to fight Sevilla!

The flying winger didn't train after contracting a bug, but boss Jurgen Klopp revealed he should still make Wednesday's Champions League opener at Anfield — even if there were conditions to his participation.

“Salah's illness should not be that serious, actually," said Klopp. "Mo told me, 'I can train'. The doc told me, 'He can train', but I asked what is the best and she told me, 'If he doesn't have to train...' So then, 'No problem — go home.'

“He was in the meeting – wasn't allowed to breathe, but in the meeting — and we send him home, so that's all.

"The plan is he comes in tomorrow and he should be able to play, but of course I don't know exactly.”
