Manchester United are unlikely to sign a new left-back this summer.

The position has been a problem one for Jose Mourinho this term with the United boss previously unconvinced by Luke Shaw.

The left-back made his first Premier League start since October in the draw with Bournemouth on Saturday.

And Shaw is finally starting to win over his manager, reports the Manchester Evening News.

The defender has not travelled to Rostov, but United intend to stand by Shaw and have no plans to reinforce their problem position of left-back.

Shaw's training performances are believed to have contributed to his limited playing time since he returned to training two months ago and Mourinho explained in January that players 'in better shape and condition' were selected ahead of him.

But Mourinho spoke glowingly about Shaw at his Friday press conference and confirmed he would be in the squad for Bournemouth's visit.

"Luke is working hard, he's trying to improve," Mourinho said. "He improved by the physical point of view, I can say that by good dedication, specific work and now he needs some opportunities to feel alive.

"He needs minutes on the pitch to show evolution is not physical but globally because a player is not just a better physical condition."

When asked about United's left-back situation, Mourinho went out of his way to laud Shaw's ability and claimed he could develop into one of the best left-backs in the world.

"In practical terms we have lots of left-backs," Mourinho added. "It doesn’t look like it but the reality is that Blind, Shaw, Rojo, Darmian are all playing left-back and can play there. They are different players.

"I think the one that should be in the couple of years the best of all - because potentially he should have all the conditions to be the best of all - is Luke Shaw.

"By age, by physicality, by intensity, aggressive going forward, he should be the best. But to be the best you need to work hard. It's what he’s trying to do."
