Thibaut Courtois looks to be Real Madrid's new top target over David De Gea as contract talks with Chelsea fail to progress.

Manchester United had been braced for another enquiry for their Spanish star, yet Los Blancos appear to have been encouraged by the Blues failure to tie down the Belgian to a long-term deal.

Courtois will become a free agent in 2019, meaning next summer will be the last chance to fully cash in on the 25-year-old.

And Belgian publication HLN believe Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus are monitoring negotiations closely.

After Courtois starred in the 4-0 Champions League victory over Qarabag, he admitted talk will likely be shelved now until next summer, further strengthening his bargaining position.

"As far as my contract is concerned, Chelsea has to arrange this with my agent," Courtois is quoted as saying in HLN.

"I do not think there are new developments. We play so many matches and I prefer to focus on my performance. By the end of the season there is still plenty of time to talk."

"Regarding my contract, that's the thing where Chelsea must deal with my agent. I don't think there have been any new developments.”

Courtois spent three hugely productive seasons in Madrid, on loan at Real's rivals Atletico, after first joining Chelsea from Genk six years ago.

Since being brought back to his parent club in 2014, he has made 125 appearances for the Blues, winning two Premier League titles and a League Cup.

Although Keylor Navas has helped Madrid lift two European Cups and the Spanish title after succeeding the legendary Iker Casillas at the Bernabeu two years ago, Courtois is seen as a candidate to become the 30-year-old Costa Rica international’s long-term successor.
