Manchester City's belief is growing that they can land Alexis Sanchez in a deal potentially worth worth up to £50million.

The Blues are ready to test Arsenal’s resolve to keep striker Sanchez – who has just one year left on his contract – with an official bid for the 28-year-old, who is currently on Confederations Cup duty in Russia with Chile.

Arsenal have offered Sanchez - who bagged 30 goals last season – a new deal and insisted they have no intention of letting him leave this summer.

But City boss Pep Guardiola has made Sanchez his top transfer target and Etihad chiefs are convinced they can clinch a deal for the in-demand star, who is also wanted by Chelsea and Bayern Munich.

The Manchester club are understood to be waiting until the Confederations Cup is over before making an official approach for a man who has 72 goals and 37 assists in 145 games for the Gunners.

Arsenal are desperate for Sanchez to stay with them and have offered their star player a new deal worth a staggering £275,000-a-week to prolong his time at the Emirates Stadium.

But as they are unable to provide Champions League football next season after missing out on the top-four for the first time in two decades, the Gunners are fighting a losing battle.

Guardiola signed Sanchez from Italian club Udinese in his final season in charge of Barcelona, and the Chilean superstar is said to be keen to be reunited with his former coach.

Chelsea and Bayern are also in the hunt for Sanchez, but it is understood City, who can offer him a weekly wage of around £300,000-a-week, are in pole position to seal his signature.
