Manchester United have opened talks with Ander Herrera over a new deal, in a bid to fend off interest from Barcelona.

The Spaniard enjoyed a fine season last term and is regarded as an integral member of Jose Mourinho's squad.

Barca remain long-term admirers and are keeping tabs on Herrera but United have no plans to let him go.

According to the Daily Star , the Red Devils opened talks with the midfielder's representatives during the tour of the United States.

He is expected to put pen-to-paper in the coming weeks.

Inter Milan boss Luciano Spalletti has confirmed there has been no contact from Manchester United over Ivan Perisic.

The Croatian winger has been linked with a move to Old Trafford as Jose Mourinho eyes reinforcements in wide positions.

United were reported to have launched a £44million bid for Perisic , who is thought to be keen on the switch.

But Spalletti has indicated there is no chance of the move going through with United having not been in touch over the 28-year-old.

Manchester United have given Brazilian wonderkid Gabriel Martinelli the chance to earn a move to Old Trafford.

The highly-rated youngster has been invited to spend some time in Manchester while the club's coaches run the rule over him, according to the Manchester Evening News .

While Jose Mourinho's first-team squad lost 1-0 to Barcelona to round off their pre-season tour of America, Martinelli was given a run-out for a United youth XI.

Martinelli, who plays for Brazilian side Ituano, came on as a substitute during a 2-0 win over Lincoln Under-18s at Sincil Bank on Wednesday.
