Manchester United will consider a move for William Carvalho in January, according to Calciomercato.

The Sporting Lisbon midfielder, 24, has been linked to a number of English teams in recent years - and Jose Mourinho is another who reportedly admires him.

Carvalho's asking price has put off potential suitors in times gone by, but United have shown a willingness to spend money if they believe that they need to improve.

Sporting Lisbon will reportedly do all they can to keep hold of the player.

Bayern Munich have claimed Manchester United’s dithering cost them the chance to land £30million Portugal midfielder Renato Sanches , writes Mirror Football's Darren Lewis.

The highly-rated 19-year-old agreed a five-year deal with the German champions in May with United unable, at that point, to confirm that Jose Mourinho would be Louis van Gaal’s successor.

Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said: “We knew very well that Renato had a firm offer from Manchester United.

“I heard that the United deal couldn’t be completed as they didn’t know who their next manager would be.

“We invited Benfica’s president and Sanches’ agent to Madrid and that night we shook hands on the transfer.”

Henrikh Mkhitaryan will miss Manchester United 's next three games after aggravating his thigh injury, writes Mirror Football's Martin Domin.

The midfielder had struggled to force his way into Jose Mourinho's starting line-up since arriving at Old Trafford in a £26million move from Borussia Dortmund.

And he lasted just 45 minutes of the Manchester derby last Saturday before he was hooked with United 2-1 down.

Mkhitaryan was expected to be dropped for United's Europa League game against Feyenoord on Thursday but is also set to miss the trip to Watford on Sunday and the EFL Cup tie at Northampton next three days later.

“Wayne took it in a professional way, like the other ones,” said Mourinho. “He's played every game since the beginning of the season, he played also 90 minutes for England and he played 90 minutes last weekend.

“I want him to be fresh for the next Premier League match and at the same time it's the kind of attacking position where I have a lot of solutions and where people are working hard to have a chance."

Jose Mourinho says he would rather not be involved in the Europa League – and fears it could cost Manchester United the title, writes Mirror Football's David McDonnell.

Mourinho admitted the Europa League was “not the big dream of every player” and suggested it could be a major handicap in United's pursuit of the Premier League crown.

"This is not a competition that Manchester United wants," said Mourinho. “It's not a competition I want, it's not a competition the players want.

“But it's a competition where we are and that's the reality. We have to look to the competition with respect.

“We must find that motivation that I found myself already and I have to pass that motivation on to the players, because I know the Europa League is not the big dream of every big player.

“I think we want to do well in the competition and, for a club of our dimension to do well, is not to be out of the competition in the group phase.”
