AC Milan want to end Memphis Depay's Manchester United nightmare, according to Tuttomercato.

The Dutch winger is believed to be free to leave United in the near future if a reasonable offer is received.

Depay has struggled to recapture his Eredivisie form since moving to Old Trafford and has found himself outside of manager Jose Mourinho's plans.

Milan are reportedly weighing up a move for Depay, while could go through in January.

"There's also interest from Manchester United, West Bromwich Albion and Stoke City.

"Leicester City contacted us very recently. Tiemoue's priority is to stay at Monaco."

Manchester United sent their chief scout to watch Genk against Sassuolo on Thursday night, reports Belgian journalist Kristof Terreur.

While it is unclear exactly who Jim Lawlor will have been assessing, Terreur believes that Jamaican winger Leon Bailey and Nigerian defender Wilfred Ndidi could have been of interest.

There has also been a lot of talk surrounding Sasuolo striker Gregoire Defrel in recent weeks following his impressive start to the season in Serie A.

Jose Mourinho has moved to increase Sir Alex Ferguson 's influence on decision-making at Old Trafford as part of the manager's efforts to return Manchester United to the summit of English football, writes Duncan Castles.

Ferguson has been the most publicly prominent member of United's 'Football Club Board' since the Glaswegian voluntarily stepped down as manager in the summer of 2013.

His directorship, however, has been essentially titular, with the main board of Manchester United plc regularly ignoring his counsel on how the club should be run.

Though Ferguson was allowed to select his immediate successor as manager as a condition of his retirement, the nine-man plc board is understood to have excluded him from the appointment processes that resulted in first Louis van Gaal in 2014, then Mourinho this summer, taking the key job.

United's other Football Club Board directors, including Sir Bobby Charlton and former chief executive David Gill, have also been sidelined.

Jose Mourinho has admitted October is a “massive” month for him and his Manchester United side – with little margin for error, writes Mirror Football's David McDonnell.

United host Stoke , who go into the weekend still-winless and second-bottom, on Sunday but then face a run of huge fixtures that could go a long way to defining their first season under the Special One.

They take on arch-rivals Liverpool, Mourinho’s former club Chelsea in the league and cross-town foes Manchester City in the EFL Cup last 16, as well as a Europa League tie against Turkish heavyweights Fenerbahce.

And Mourinho conceded the run of games coming up could have signficant consequences, with United already trailing Premier League leaders City - who won at Old Trafford earlier this month - by six points after as many matches.

But he urged his players to take motivation from such big occasions.

“You know, every game is massive — Watford was massive,” said Mourinho.

“We lost three points against Watford – not different from the three points we lost against Manchester City.

“So every game for me is important but, you’re right, we have some big opponents in October – but that’s also a motivation.”

Juan Mata has insisted he has no problems with Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho, writes Mirror Football's David McDonnell.

Mata was sold to United by Mourinho for £37.1million when the Special One was in his second spell in charge at Chelsea.

And when Mourinho was appointed at United, it was assumed Mata would be one of the most high-profile casulaties of his arrival.

But Mata has thrived under Mourinho, who claimed the Spaniard had found his "natural habitat" at United following his move from Stamford Bridge.

"Many lies were told about me and Mourinho when he arrived at the club this summer and it bothered me that every day I had to read and listen to rumours that weren't true," said Mata. "With him I'm fine.

"You read a lot of comments on Facebook and Twitter but they just make you laugh.

"I really want to lift titles at Manchester United, the Premier League is a trophy I have never won but I believe we can do it with this group."

United train ahead of Stoke clash

Manchester United's stars were put through their paces in training on Friday, two days ahead of their Premier League clash against Stoke, writes Mirror Football's James Whaling.

United will be looking to make it three wins in eight days following a thumping 4-1 victory over champions Leicester last weekend and a less convincing 1-0 win over Ukrainian minnows Zorya Luhansk on Thursday evening.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic's goal proved decisive as the Red Devils laboured to their first points in their campaign in Europe's secondary competition.

The matches come thick and fast after the international break, and boss Jose Mourinho has described the congested schedule as a 'poisoned gift'.

In-form Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera looked happy to be back alongside midfield partner Paul Pogba after being left out of his side's 1-0 Europa League victory over Luhansk on Thursday.

The 27-year-old posed for a selfie alongside the French £89million man, who played all 90 minutes, and fellow Spaniard David de Gea as they returned to Carrington.

Herrera was impressive in the 4-1 victory against Leicester on Saturday, and will likely return when United host Stoke at Old Trafford.
