Manchester United are monitoring Roma defender Antonio Rudiger, according to the Daily Mail.

United are reportedly joining Chelsea in the race for the £35million-rated star, who is a full Germany international.

He sustained a serious knee injury just prior to Euro 2016 and that allegedly put Chelsea's plans of signing him on the backburner, but they are ready to reignite their interest.

With Rudiger set to return, United are also reportedly keen to follow his progress and look towards a deal.

Manchester United players have been left stunned by Jose Mourinho's hands-off approach in training, according to The Times.

The club's stars are reportedly shocked that Mourinho often leaves midweek training sessions to the team's coaches and he has little influence on proceedings.

Mourinho reportedly speaks to players ahead of his sessions before heading off to his desk to watch from a distance.

Some players are reportedly unhappy and would prefer a closer relationship with their manager, especially due to the recent poor run of form.

Jose Mourinho has been told not to go to war to solve the crisis that has engulfed him at Manchester United , writes Mirror Football's David McDonnell.

Mourinho’s United reign has been plunged into turmoil following Sunday’s humiliating 4-0 defeat at his former club Chelsea.

Ex-Barcelona star Xavi , who saw first-hand Mourinho’s dark arts when the Special One was in charge of rivals Real Madrid, fears Mourinho will revert to type with his back against the wall.

Xavi said: “Sometimes, when things don’t go well for Mourinho, he wants war not football - like when he was at Madrid - and I hope we don’t see that again in England.”

Marouane Fellaini is out of United's EFL Cup tie against City on Wednesday with a knee injury sustained in the high tackle that earned David Luiz a yellow card, writes Mirror Football's David McDonnell.

United fear Fellaini could be out for several weeks, but cannot put a timeline on the injury until the swelling on his knee has eased sufficiently for the midfielder to undergo a scan.

City have their own injury concerns ahead of the EFL Cup tie, with Kevin De Bruyne also out.

The midfielder did not emerge for the second-half of City's 1-1 draw with Southampton on Sunday after suffering a calf injury.

Jose Mourinho has told his Manchester United players they must be “men” as they try to recover from their Chelsea humiliation, writes Mirror Football's David McDonnell.

United face local rivals City in the EFL Cup on Wednesday following their 4-0 hiding at Mourinho’s former club Chelsea on Sunday.

The tie will go to extra time and penalties if necessary and Mourinho has demanded an immediate response from his players, insisting there is no room for “kids” within his team, only “men” ready to show their worth.

“There is no way to hide, because I think our faces speak by themselves,” said Mourinho.

“We are really, really sad, but again this is not for kids, this is for men and we have to be men and work for the next one.

“I would prefer to play in the Premier League [rather than the EFL Cup]. It’s a bad feeling in the Premier League.

“With the combination of results the gap to the top is six points. We’ve had a very difficult period of matches."

The Manchester United striker arrived in the Premier League this summer after four years with Paris Saint-Germain in which he won every possible domestic honour.

He confirmed his place in PSG history with a raft of records, including becoming their top goalscorer of all-time in all competitions, their top score in Ligue 1 and the first player to be top scorer in three seasons.

In 2016 he scored the most Ligue 1 goals in a season (38) and netted the fastest-ever hat-trick in just nine minutes.

He also levelled with Vahid Halihodzic as the man with the longest consecutive run of scoring games.
