Manchester United could be pipped to the signing of Celtic sensation Kieran Tierney, according to the Express.

Sunderland reportedly are plotting a move for the full-back over the next two days, as they try to rush through some final transfer business.

United were leading the race for the teenager's signature with other Premier League big guns in Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City all seemingly keen.

But Sunderland are hoping to blow their rivals out of the water by securing his signing early.

It is believed that a £10million-plus offer could be submitted before the window shuts on Tuesday night.

Jose Mourinho has admitted Ashley Young could leave Manchester United in the January transfer window, but claims he would "love to keep" the winger at the club, writes Mirror Football's Jake Polden.

Everton, Swansea, West Brom and Watford are all said to be interested in signing the former Aston Villa midfielder, who has made just four appearances for the Red Devils this season.

And Mourinho, speaking after United's 4-0 win over Wigan in the FA Cup fourth round, revealed that he is still waiting on the 31-year-old to make a decision on his future.

"The only player that I am aware of a possibility to leave, and I am waiting just for the 31st of January to know really what is going on, is Ashley Young," said Mourinho

"[He's] a player that I would love to keep, I will not be happy at all if he leaves but he's the only player that I was informed there would be a possibility of him leaving."

Jose Mourinho has confirmed Bastian Schweinsteiger will stay at Manchester United beyond the January transfer window, writes Mirror Football's Jake Polden.

The German will also be added to the club's Europa League squad for the knockout stages of the competition, after impressing Mourinho in Sunday night's FA Cup tie against Wigan.

The 32-year-old made his first start in over a year in the fourth round clash and returned with a stunning goal in United's 4-0 win over the Championship outfit.

"Yes, he's staying, he's going to the Europa League because we have opened spaces with [Memphis] Depay and [Morgan] Schneiderlin," said Mourinho.

Mourinho slams fixture list as "absolute nonsense"

Jose Mourinho branded the fixture schedule “absolute nonsense” after Manchester United cruised into the last 16 of the FA Cup, writes Mirror Football's David McDonnell.

Goals from Marouane Fellaini, Chris Smalling, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Bastian Schweinsteiger - making his first start for 385 days - took United into the next round.

But Mourinho was in no mood to celebrate and turned his ire on the gruelling fixture schedule he claimed had left United facing a “crazy situation”.

United, who are fighting on four fronts, could end up playing 67 games by the end of the season, with Mourinho angered at the fixture pile-up that awaits him and his players.

“In the League Cup we have a 50 per cent chance of winning,” said Mourinho. “In the FA Cup, we are in the last 16. In the Europa League we're in the last 32, so lots of matches to play.

“I can imagine we're going to have some nice gifts, like Watford today, they had an amazing gift. They played today in the FA Cup and they play on Tuesday in the Premier League. It's a laugh.

“So many matches played yesterday, how is it possible a team plays today and plays Tuesday again? It's an absolute nonsense. This is not just for Watford. I know many of those surprises will be waiting for us.

“Compare it with other clubs. Liverpool will play 16 matches, Chelsea will play 16, plus some in the FA Cup, and we're in this really crazy situation.

“Southampton will have 15 days without football before the EFL Cup final.

“We're going to play two matches against St Etienne and the next round of the FA Cup, so the calendar in the best country in world football is nonsense.”
