Manchester United have had their price named for Marco Asensio.

The Daily Star claim that Jose Mourinho has been told that he will need to stump up a whopping £40million for the Real Madrid sensation.

Asensio, 21, was signed by Real for a mere £3million in 2014 but now demand a huge fee if they are to part company with him.

That comes despite having Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, James Rodriguez and Isco ahead of him in the pecking order.

United are believed to be leading the race for the attacking midfielder, but over 20 top European clubs are believed to have enquired about his availability.

Bayern Munich star Douglas Costa has put Premier League clubs on alert after revealing his desire to play in England, writes Mirror Football's Aaron Flanagan.

The Brazilian winger has revealed that his representatives have received offers from clubs in England, Spain, France and China.

Speaking to Bild, he said: "We got some strong offers from China and also from big clubs from Europe. When the season is over, we will sit down and analyse everything. First of all, I am only focused on ending the season with all the titles I can win.

"It is not my idea to leave Bayern now. I want to win titles. I like Bayern and I think I can win titles with Bayern to reach the highest technical level of my career, to go for the Ballon d'Or, the Champions League, the Club World Cup.

"I want to win all sorts of titles and then the World Cup with the Brazilian national team. Then we will think about new markets.

"I cannot comment on names, but there are contacts with teams from England, Spain and also France."

Jose Mourinho says he was "protecting" Henrikh Mkhitaryan by not playing him at the start of Manchester United's Premier League campaign, writes Mirror Football's Jake Polden.

Until late November, the former Borussia Dortmund star was little more than a bit-part player for United, coming on as a late substitute in a handful of games.

"Sometimes the best way to protect players is not to play them," said Mourinho.

"I think in your chair, your perspective is always 'if a player is not playing the manager is disturbing him', but this is not true.

"Sometimes we don't play players, we protect them, and Mkhitaryan was one of these cases.

"He was being protected and he was adapting and I can see not just what you see, because you see the magic things he can do on the pitch.

"But I also see other things that I want to see and Mkhitaryan is playing really, really well."

Leicester 0-3 United: 5 things we learned

Leicester's relegation worries continue to mount after a controversial defeat to Manchester United left them two points off the bottom.

Champions boss Claudio Ranieri remonstrated Juan Mata should have seen red in the 28th minute for an out of control two-footed challenge which sent Jamie Vardy flying at 0-0.

Mata escaped with a caution and United went on to triumph easily as they blew the hosts away with three goals in quick succession.

First Henrikh Mkhitaryan ran on to Chris Smalling's header to out-sprint the home defence and fire in on 42 minutes.

Two minutes later Zlatan Ibrahimovic slammed in Antonio Valencia's cross for his 20th goal of the season for United, who were missing the sick Wayne Rooney.

Then, to add insult, Mata got on the scoresheet himself in the 49th minute after Leicester's defence was caught napping.

Here are five things we learned.
