Napoli are trying to sign Manchester United misfit Matteo Darmian in January.

The Serie A leaders have made enquiries about the 28-year-old Italy international full-back, who has struggled to get regular games in the Premier League.

Their fellow Italian sides Juventus and Roma have also been interested in Darmian, who could be offloaded to pave the way for the Old Trafford giants to make a new left-back signing.

They are keen on Tottenham’s England international Danny Rose and also Juventus’ Brazilian Alex Sandro .

United know a deal for the latter could be easier to get across the line.

While Juve may be tempted to sell for around £60m, Spurs have been playing hardball on Rose despite the player making it clear he is ready to leave the Londoners.

Chelsea also remain keen on Sandro after trying to sign him in the summer.

Darmian joined from Torino for £12million in summer 2015 under then-manager Louis van Gaal but has struggled to establish himself as a first choice — he has made just four Premier League appearances this season, and only two of them were starts — and could now be used to fund a new signing.
