Ian Wright reckons “awesome” Mesut Ozil would be a great signing for Manchester United - and would perform better there than he does at the Emirates.

The Arsenal midfielder is available on a free transfer at the end of the season and a reunion with former Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford could be on the cards this summer.

With Alexis Sanchez seemingly destined to join Manchester City, Gunners great Wright admitted it was “sad times” that the boss Arsene Wenger are set to lose “two of arguably our best players in the history of the club”.

But when probed on whether Ozil would be a good fit for rivals United, Wright conceded “Yes, I do.”

The former England striker, who scored 185 goals for Arsenal in 288 games, told Sky Sports’ The Debate: “I think he's [Ozil] that type of player who will drag a team by its bootlaces through a game.

“But if your team is playing well, he's going to sprinkle stardust all over the place.

"With the players he'd be playing with at Man United as well, he is unbelievable.”

The 54-year-old added: “He is just awesome, and with the right team, and the right movement in front of him, he is easily one of the best I've seen.

“He's amazing.”
