Manchester United are set to pocket £7.5m despite Michael Keane snubbed them to join Everton.

Centre back Keane completed his switch to Goodison Park in a club record-equalling £30m from Burnley on Monday night.

United had been keen on grabbing their former academy star back, but are ready to receive a cash bonus instead.

Keane left Old Trafford in 2015 having only made five first team appearances for the Red Devils - enjoying loan spells at Leicester, Derby and Blackburn.

But on his departure to the Clarets , United added a 25 per cent sell on clause in the deal - which has paid dividends following this summer's cash splash by the Toffees.

England star Keane signed a five year deal on Merseyside - with the contract worth £100,000-a-week.

And the 24-year-old claims he has moved to Everton because he believes Ronald Koeman can make him a better player.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be at Everton, a fantastic football club with passionate fans and a great tradition.

“First and foremost, the manager was a big factor in me coming to the club. He played in my position when he was a world-class player for a great Barcelona side and a great Dutch side and the style of football he likes to play will suit me, I believe.

“I watched a lot of Everton last season and I believe I really suit how the team likes to play. I feel like this is a great place to come and continue my development as a player.

“He’s convinced me that he can still improve me in certain areas of my game. I’m only 24 which, for a centre-half in the Premier League, is relatively young. I’ve still got a long way to go and I know this and hopefully under his guidance I’ll keep improving."
