Paul Lambert will be given a survival fund to spend this month to get Stoke out of relegation trouble.

The new Stoke boss will meet with the club’s owners today to discuss potential targets and also how much he will have to spend.

They are unlikely to break the bank but Lambert is expected to get some cash to get the club away from the relegation zone.

Former Aston Villa boss Lambert was the club’s surprise choice after Martin O’Neill and Quique Sanchez Flores turned it down and they could not get Gary Rowett.

Lambert jumped at the chance of getting back into Premier League management despite the club’s current predicament.

There is a realisation that the squad needs strengthening as last year the club spent money on the stadium rather than new players.

Former boss Mark Hughes went along with the club’s vision but Stoke will now look to push through some deals because they are desperate to stay up.

Lambert was keen to work with British owners again at Stoke after bad experiences with foreign owners at Wolves, Blackburn and Villa.

Lambert wants to bring in Stuart Taylor to his coaching staff as the pair worked together at Wolves.
