Neymar has instructed Paris Saint-Germain chiefs to sign Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool.

That is according to Spanish outlet Sport, who say the Parisians have joined Barcelona in the race for the Brazilian.

Coutinho wanted to quit Anfield over the summer to force a move to the Nou Camp, but Liverpool held firm after insisting throughout the transfer window their star man was not for sale.

The Reds' stance has not changed but the Catalans are expected to go back in next summer, and will reportedly be joined by the French giants.

"It was a big problem last season and everybody was hoping they could solve the problem," he told the BBC.

"I think they definitely should buy somebody. At least one or two centre-backs, they tried [Virgil] Van Dijk, but they couldn't make it happen."
